ABOUT THE INDUSTRY

MMA is the fastest growing sport in the country and has spawned new interest in all forms of martial arts. New gyms and training centers are opening every day, and new athletes are constantly getting involved. The sport of MMA combines fighting techniques from various martial art disciplines: primarily Boxing, Muay Thai/Kickboxing, Wrestling, and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Fighters face-off in a boxing ring or caged area, and fight until a winner is decided. The sport, in a short period of time, has grown in tremendous lengths. Originally viewed by most as nothing more than barbaric street fights, the sport is now widely accepted in mainstream sports, and is sanctioned by athletic commissions in many states including New Hampshire. Competitors train vigorously in martial arts. Many are former Olympic wrestlers or Golden Glove boxers wishing to continue to use their skills in a professional environment. Television MMA pay-per-views typically receive higher ratings than all but the top name boxing events. Mixed Martial Arts is definitely
here to stay.
